Invisible braces is a procedure that uses a series of clear teeth aligners that gradually accomplish desired straightening of your teeth. The process does not involve the use of any kind of rubber bands, wires, or metal braces which are commonly used in traditional orthodontics.

Invisible braces are nearly invisible, comfortable, removable, and discreet. Your mouth will not be irritated by wires, brackets, or rubber bands, and the aligners can easily be removed for meals or for special occasions. You will have no obstructions to flossing or brushing or worries about a loose wire or bracket. Best of all, most people won’t even notice you’re wearing them. Feel confident with your smile. In terms of disadvantages, the process is somewhat expensive, and only a portion of the cost is usually covered by insurance. It also requires some self-discipline in order to keep the aligners in place for the majority of the day (at least 20 hours), so this might be considered a disadvantage. In terms of advantages, it is just as effective as traditional braces, without having discomfort or the high visibility of metal braces.

From beginning to end, the process will normally take between 12 and 18 months, which is a shorter time frame than traditional braces usually require. However, if the patient is not conscientious about leaving the aligners in place for 20 hours each day, the process can take longer.

Invisible braces can be used for most situations unless the amount of straightening necessary is unusually severe. In such cases, metal braces will probably be required in order to fully achieve the desired level of straightening.

There is a slight difference between systems which are used for teens and those used for adults. Since teens are more likely to forget to replace their aligners after a meal, there is a blue dot indicator on teen aligners that keeps track of the number of hours that aligners are installed. There are also generally more sets of aligners required for teens than adults, because teens are far more likely to lose their aligners or to damage them, and in either case, replacements would then be necessary.

The first step in the process is to come on in for a free consult with Dr. Hayslip. At that time, your teeth will be appraised to see whether or not you're a good candidate for this treatment, and a map of your teeth and mouth will be prepared. Dr. Hayslip will then prepare a plan which covers the entire time frame necessary to accomplish whatever level of straightening is required. This plan will include the usage of each set of invisible aligners and the projected duration of straightening necessary. Then you will just start with the first set of aligners, and begin the process of changing your smile for the better, and enjoying much straighter teeth.
